We at Agere believe that metallurgical plants are an integral part of  
every mining operation, and we have realised that the management
and technical performance of any plant is a fundamental requirement
of any mining business.  Our team comes from the mining industry
and have been involved in plant management, plant operations as well
as project managemen with well known metallurgical engineering
companies. We are therefore well qualified and well placed to assist

  In addition to the services listed above, we have, through our previous
experience and company needs, optimised a short interval control
management system (SIC) which we have implemented at various
plants with a huge success. We use basic management principles
but attach to that some tools which assist managers to empower the 
teams to manage and operate the plants effectively. One of those
principles is that “you cannot control what you cannot measure.”
We have seen costs go out of control at many plants mainly due
to the likes of power, labour, stores and material price increases.
What we have found however is that costs can be controlled and 
even reduced if people are committed and teams are aware of what 
things cost.
 
 
  There are three distinct phases in the SIC system:
  • Process control and monitoring – mostly continuous and automation and control form part of this
  • Process operation, performance and cost – daily and weekly.

  We have also found that there is a need to professionally update
operating procedures for metallurgical plants. We have built up a
database of operating procedures which we update to the 
requirements of the client for specific needs and processes.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

 

  Finally, we have a large data base of benchmark data which we can
use to measure and apply best practice. Using client reports, we 
gather data and, after analysis, deliver our fact-based findings to the
client to  establish a baseline for the plants current performance,
providing results against an appropriate and world-class peer group;
defining and quantifying a plant’s performance gaps, both in terms of
functional efficiency and effectiveness. In so doing, we can identify
gaps in the plant’s performance and identify and develop action plans to close the gaps. Between the current and desired performance.
